A rogue  policeman  in Embu County, Eastern part of Kenya last night shot 10 people  indiscriminately among them two of his colleagues killing  them on the spot  in what senior police detectives  in the area  alleged to be unfaithfulness  from his girlfriend.

The police officer started the killing spree at around 10.30 PM  last night   and killed them in three different spots .

Mbeere North Administration police commandant Hezron Opiyo said that the officer was on duty at the district commissioners’ compound before he excused himself allegedly to go for a shot call.

The officer is then alleged to have carried his G3 riffle fully fitted with 20 rounds of ammunition and went to the market allegedly to look for her female friend who was drinking at one of the town bars.

Minutes after the officer left gun shots were heard at Coconut Bar where three of the bar attendants were shot dead without even without any provocation after they revealed that the lady was not in the pub.

After hearing the screams and gun shots in the town two of his colleagues tried calling him but his calls were not answered, They both run to the market but they colleague opened fired killing them on the spot.

The officer then walked about 200 meters to another pub where he also shot dead other four people as the others run for safety to the toilets of the pubs.

Tears and grief engulfed Siakago town in Mbeere north district after an Administration police officer went berserk shot and killed ten residents among them two police officers.

The residents said that they will not allow to be discriminated particularly with a new constitution, “It is shameful that in the Kenya we want to build where ten youths can be killed in one night by the same police officers who are supposed to be protecting them.” They said

Nyaga Manunga a resident in the area whose 25 year old daughter who was a cabbage business lady in the market was killed said that his daughter was walking home from work when she met with the officer who shot and killed her.

He said that the officers only came out for the rescue of the residents after the officer had killed all the ten victims and there was no more bullets adding that the area has been encountering security hitches.

Mbeere North district commissioner John Chelimo said that the officer has since been transferred to the Eastern criminal investigations headquarters in Embu for interrogation as police continue with investigations.

He alleged that the officer was targeting his female friend and after he could not find her started shooting dead all those who were in the two pubs.

Mbeere district officer commanding police division Jecinta Wesonga said that the police failed to control the situation because they didn’t even know who was really shooting. “Our officers didn’t know who was shooting and that made it difficult for them to contain the situation” she said.

“He is a well trained officer and was able to dodge other police officers who we mobilized to take care of him.” She said.

The bodies of the two police officers, two ladies and six men have since been moved to the Mbeere district hospital mortuary pending postmortem.
