Somalia: 10 civilians wounded in Mogadishu shelling

MOGADISHU, Somalia July 25 (Garowe Online) - At least 10 civilians were wounded in overnight shelling in the Somali capital Mogadishu, Radio Garowe reports.

The violence sparked after suspected insurgents attacked pro-government forces stationed at Wardhigley, Hodan and Howlwadaag districts, local sources said.

There were no reports of casualties on the government or insurgent side, but unconfirmed reports said African Union peacekeepers (AMISOM) were also targeted with mortars.

Mogadishu has been the scene of a relentless insurgency since early 2007. Somalia's U.N.-backed interim government is attempting to restore national order since the collapse of the Horn of Africa country's last effective government in 1991.
