O.N.L.F: Please let our Ogaden Somalis Eat Food

Today, the United Nation’s World Food Program (WFP) said that 2 million people in our home country of Ogadenia need emergency food assistance or our people will starve to death! (

http://www.iht.com/articles/ ap/2008/09/22/africa/AF- Ethiopia-Drought.php

)This is a shocking reality that is becoming more dangerous everyday that passes without the food aid reaching our people.

The UN is blaming two factors for this humanitarian crisis.

#1 The UN blames it for the lack of “rainfall for three years” in Ogaden.

#2 The UN blames it for the “ongoing fighting between the Ethiopian Army and separatist rebels.”

These two conclusions by the UN gives no sign of relief for the suffering people on the ground. These are the reasons why the UN is ignoring and belittling the crisis. As Somalis anywhere on earth are our brothers and sisters, all of us should put pressure on the actors in this crisis. The TFG in Mogadishu needs to put pressure on its Ethopian friends and ONLF supporters need to put pressure on ONLA to allow this crisis to pass and let our starving Somali brothers in Ogaden eat food!!

As the international food aid organizations are flocking to Ethiopia, the UN says it is in Ethiopia but it can not get access to regions where the Ethiopian Tigray regime and ONLF are fighting. This is unacceptable! If these two million people in Ogadenia die this year, their blood will be on the hands of President Melez Zenawi and ONLF chairman Mohammed Osman.

But since the Tigray regime of Ethiopia has no care for the innocent people of Ogaden, it is unrealistic to expect that it would allow food aid for our people. It would be unrealistic to expect the Ethiopian Tigray government to stop fighting the war. There are 3 more reasons for this.

  1. There is no African government in the whole continent who will simply give up its power for a rebel movement. We have seen it everywhere, in east, south and other parts of Africa. It is unrealistic to expect that the Ethiopian government will suddenly stop fighting, especially since it has no care for the Somali people of Ogaden region.
  2. At this time, the Tigray regime is using other non-Ogadeni Somalis to fight against ONLF. Which gives it very small reason to dis-continue any war in Ogaden.
  3. With the Tigray regime of Ethiopia facing daily attacks in Mogadishu, it will not risk another loss in Ogaden.

These and more reasons makes it very unlikely that the Ethiopian regime will ever give Ogaden relief and allow humanitarian organizations access to the 2 million Ogadenis starving today. And this is one of the main reasons why ONLF needs to remove the #2 excuse the UN is using to ignore the crisis in Ogaden. The UN will make the war between Tigray regime and ONLF an excuse to let 2 million Ogadenis perish from the face of this earth. If ONLF has any love and care for our people in Ogaden, stop the war now!! Everyone knows the Tigray regime has no grassroots support in Ogaden therefore, our people will eventually find freedom. There is nothing that will stop this destiny of freedom and independence from colonial Ethiopia! But ONLF should let our people eat food and live or the blood of 2 million people will be on its hands!

ONLF doing this will help to SAVE 2 million people lives and even when the Somalis who are helping the Tigray regime see the humane decision by ONLF, it will help ONLF get more support. ACT NOW!!!
