Somalia: NUSOJ outraged by vicious attack on TV journalist

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) is today outraged by vicious attack against female TV journalist Bisharo Mohammed Waeys in Bossasso of Bari region on 4 May 2008 by unidentified gunmen.

Armed men opened fire to her vehicle, but Bisharo, who works for Eastern Television Network (ETN), escaped uninjured from the attack as she speedily drove towards here home. Today, 5 May 2008, she was sent two threatening short messages which said they would kill her if she did not stop the talk shows that she hosts.

“We strongly denounce this atrocious attack against Bisharo Mohammed Waeys as clear attempt to victimize her because of her journalistic profession” said Omar Faruk Osman, NUSOJ Secretary General. “We demand Puntland authorities to protect her safety, investigate this attack, apprehend perpetrators and bring them before justice”.
