3 killed as Somali 'forces' clash in Mogadishu

At least 3 people were killed and nine others wounded in a battle among Somali government forces in the capital Mogadishu, Radio Garowe reports on Thursday.

The fighting erupted at the junction between Banadir and Zope in the south of Mogadishu, where a group of government forces engaged with another armed group wearing the Somali forces uniforms who attacked vehicles carrying humanitarian goods, according to eyewitnesses.

Abdullahi Hassan Barise, a Somali police spokesman said the fighting was between government forces and ‘bandits’ wearing forces uniforms, adding that two people are killed.

“The bandits killed two people who were on the small car. One of the victims was the head of Mogadishu’s Hotel Nasahabod. Several other people were also injured,” said Col. Barise.

The attackers were reportedly after the vehicles contracted by the WFP to transport humanitarian aid.
