9 Somali gov't soldiers killed in separate incidents

Infighting Somali forces have killed at least four and injured 3 others in the capital as explosion targeting government troops claim five soldiers.

The fighting between the government forces, comprising of military and police officers was caused by argument over the ownership of a gun, according to government officials.

“I have seen the dead bodies of at least four soldiers and injuries of three others. The two sides exchanged fire,” said an eyewitness.

It took the intervention of senior commanders to calm down the two forces. The Somali police spokesman said investigations have been launched into the incident.

Meanwhile, a roadside bomb killed five government soldiers and wounded seven civilians at Hamarjajab neighborhood in the southern part of the city. The Al-Shabaab group was quick to claim responsibility for the attack in a statement.

It said the explosion was a revenge for the death of civilians in the capital.

The capital is currently experiencing high tension over the much-awaited government offensive against the rebels.
