A Somali website plagiarises Garowe Online content

Mogadihsu, (Somali Press Review, July 4)--One of the popular Somali websites, Somaliweyn.org,  is under fire for plagiarising  Garowe Online content about  kidnapped Germans in Sanaag,  the northeastern  region of  to the source. T

The only attribution at the end of the story is “SomaliWeyn Media Centre SMC.” It is not clear whether  the Somaliweyn.org plagiarism is intentional   or due to lack of understanding about story attribution.

“We don’t mind if our content is used and credited but in the case of Somaliweyn.org, they [ Somaliweyn.com editors] have just credited themselves,” Mohamed A. Ahmed, editor of Garowe Online told Somali Press Review.

Despite the increasing number of Somali websites, it is easier to detect plagiarism in the content of some Somali websites.  Somaliweyn.org saga will highlight the need to be on watch against plagiarism in all its forms.
