NDOLA, Zambia Dec 14 2012 (Garowe Online) - At least 7 Somali nationals were injured after angry Zambians burned and looted homes following a murder of a Zambian worker in Ndola on Friday, Garowe Online reports.
A Somali national named Omar Mohamud, killed a Zambian chef who had been working for him after the two had disputed over an unpaid wage according to Zambia media reports.
The Somali man killed Holland Kabaso in broad daylight that sparked off riots and targeted attacks of Somalis in Ndola.
At least 7 people were injured after homes, businesses and vehicles of Somali nationals were burned and looted in the third largest city in Zambia, Ndola. The Somali populated neighborhoods of Masala and Ndeke were hit the hardest.
Some rioters were seen carrying weapons such as machetes during the attacks. There are unconfirmed reports saying that at least one Somali died from injuries sustained in the riots.
Riot police were sent in to calm down the angry residents.
There are at least 5 thousand Somalis reportedly living in Zambia. Authorities have requested that Zambians stay calm.
