MOGADISHU, Somalia Sep 12, 2012, 2012 (Garowe Online) - Two vehicles laced with explosives have targeted a hotel in
Mogadishu where new Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was staying,
witnesses told Garowe Online on Wednesday.
President Hassan was present when two suicide bombers rammed
their explosives-ladden vehicles into the hotel gate. Unconfirmed reports tell
Garowe Online that a senior Kenyan official was present at the hotel along with
former Somali Prime Minister Dr. Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas.
Casualty figures could not be verified, but witnesses
reported a horror scene in the aftermath of car bombers. No group has claimed responsibility
for the bombing, but Al Shabaab terrorist group has been responsible for a violent
history of suicide bombs, roadside explosions and targeted assassinations in
Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia.
New Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud won a landslide parliamentary vote against former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed during a vote on Monday, at which point he was sworn in as the new President of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The new president's priority tasks include security, particularly in Mogadishu where the daily threat of bombings and shootings is a frequent danger.
