MOGADISHU, Somalia Jan 12 2012 (Garowe Online) - The Djibouti government issued a statement Wednesday denying allegations from Al Shabaab that Djibouti troops who joined AMISOM peacekeepers last month shelled a mosque in Mogadishu last Saturday, Radio Garowe reports.
The statement from the Djibouti consulate in Mogadishu read, "The deployment of Djibouti troops in Somalia are initial deployments, more will come and the troops that have been deployed are assessing what location is best for the Djibouti troops to be stationed in Mogadishu."
The Djibouti Deputy Ambassador for Somalia Mr. Mohamed Ali Jama who spoke to reporters said that Al Shabaab is trying to create a rift in the relationship between Djibouti troops and the Somali people.
He added that Djibouti troops have not yet partake in any operations in the ground in Mogadishu proving that the allegations from Al Shabaab are fallacies.
Allegations of whose responsible for the shelling of Al Hidaya mosque began after a clash last Saturday between AMISOM peacekeepers and Al Shabaab insurgents left 12 dead and a mosque destroyed.
On Monday Sheik Mohamed Abu Abdirahman pointed the finger for the shelling of Hidaya mosque in Mogadishu at Djibouti troops who joined AMISOM peacekeepers last month.
According to local sources the mosque was hit with heavy artillery more than 15 times this past Saturday, an MPs son was killed in the clashes.
