After five hours of consultations and deliberations in a closed session, the IGAD Heads of State and Government issued a seven-point plan with timelines.
The regional leaders from Djibouti, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan and Uganda did not mince their words and challenged the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia to take its responsibilities very seriously. They also appealed to the people of Somalia and their other Transitional Federal Institutions including the Parliament to play their rightly roles.
"You should either unite or perish," they stated adding that the international community will only support the institutions and people of Somalia if they themselves unite first.
