Kenya: Suicide bomber injures 4 in Wajir

WAJIR, Kenya Feb 3 2013 (Garowe Online) – A suicide bomber detonated himself in a busy market in Wajir a town in north-eastern Kenya on Sunday, injuring 4, Garowe Online reports.

According to local sources, a non-native of the predominantly Somali populated north eastern Kenya entered a busy intersection after Isha prayers in Wajir, and detonated the explosives that were strapped to his body.

There were no casualties apart from the bomber however, the explosion injured 4 including 1 Kenyan police officer.

Authorities quickly rushed to the scene locking off the intersection as they investigated the explosion. Business in the market came to a standstill on Saturday night but gradually returned to normal on Sunday.

Attacks in the north eastern region have escalated following Kenyan troops entering southern Somalia to battle Al Shabaab late 2011.
