President Farole celebrates 69th Anniversary of Somalia Police in Bossaso 21 Dec 21, 2012 - 10:04:53 PM
BOSSASO, Somalia Dec. 21, 2012 (Garowe Online) - The president of Somalia’s Puntland government Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Farole attended the 69th Anniversary since the formation of Somali Police Force at a ceremony event held in Bossaso, Garowe Online reports.

President Farole attended the event held at the police headquarters on Thursday Dec.20, along with Cabinet ministers, police and military commanders, regional and district officials, traditional elders, business community, U.N. officers, and guests.
Puntland Police Force members marched and saluted President Farole, followed by songs and poetry performance by Waberi Puntland drama group and poet Atosh.
Gen. Mohamed Said Jaqanaf, Puntland’s police commissioner, told the audience about the efforts and performance of the police, praising the successful security operations and stating that the Puntland Police Central Command has established police stations and checkpoints in many new towns and villages.
Garaad Abdullahi Ali Eid, spokesman for the Puntland traditional elders (Issimo), encouraged the public to “protect the peace and stability”, adding that the public should aid and cooperate with security forces to arrest criminal elements and prevent crimes.
Puntland Security Minister Gen. Khalif Issa Mudan expressed his thanks to the Puntland Police Force.
“The Puntland Police Force has done a great job to build peace and stability in Puntland. The police force is the backbone of security in Puntland. I wish to also thank President Farole for attending this important day with the police here. It is an important day in police history in Somalia,” said Minister Mudan.
President Farole thanked the police force for hosting the day and for the tremendous work the police force conducts in Puntland.
“I congratulate the Puntland Police for the tremendous hard work and sacrifice in the service of country,” said President Farole, while briefing the audience about the history of Somali Police Force.
The Puntland leader said that, during his administration, the police officers received training locally and some received training scholarships overseas, adding that this is a good achievement to build stronger police institutions.
Continuing, President Farole said: “I urge you to be proud as a police officer. I encourage the youth to join the Police Force. This is an honor; in the past, the police insignia was a sign of pride.”
Another event marking the 69th Anniversary since the formation of the Somali Police Force was held in Mogadishu and attended by Somali Federal Government officials.
