GALKAYO, Somalia Jan. 14, 2013 (Garowe Online)
- Authorities in Somalia
's Puntland region say they have rejected to
recogniz
e the newly nominated members of the Somali Olympic Committee, Garowe Online reports.
Abdiweli Hersi Abdulle
"Indhoguran
", Puntland
's minister for labor, sports and youth, told a press conference in Galkayo on Sunday that the Puntland government does not recognize the new Somalia Olympic Committee.
"It is unfortunate that the new members of Somalia Olympic Committee all hail from a single region. Puntland recognizes the Somalia Olympic Committee as the regional Banadir Olympic Committee,
" said Minister Indhoguran. Banadir is the region where Mogadishu is located.
Minister Indhoguran noted that the selection process for the new members of the Somalia Olympic Committee was
"not transparent and violates
" the country
's laws, adding that Puntland government has refused to recognize the new members of the Somalia Olypmic Committee.
Since 1991 when the central government collapsed, members of a single clan-family in Somalia have overtaken Mogadishu, thereby largely alienating other clans of Somalia.
