Somali-Canadian man killed in Mogadishu


A Somali-Canadian man is reportedly killed while fighting for Somalia’s hardline militant group Al-Shabaab in the chaotic capital Mogadishu, reports said.
 
Mohammed Elmi Ibrahim, 25, who went missing two years ago, was apparently killed during heavy fighting between al-Shabaab and government forces early this week in Mogadishu, his family reported on Thursday.
 
Elmi is believed to have travelled back to his war-torn homeland in late 2008 through Saudi Arabia, where he went to perform pilgrimage to fight along side Al-Shabaab, which Ottawa recently enlisted as a terrorist network.
 
The group confirmed the death of Elmi, whom it described as a mountain.
 
“Our dear brother Mohamed was (a) mountain and in battle he was firm and calm rushing toward death,” a video from the group stated.
 
He is one of six Somali-Canadians believed to have joined the al-Qaida-linked militia in recent months.
