Somali PM reshuffles cabinet to include new members

GAROWE ONLINE

Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke has reshuffled his cabinet to include new members while dropping others.

Among the 39 cabinet members is Sheikh Aden Madoobe, former speaker of the parliament, who was appointed deputy Prime Minister and minister of ports and transportation.

Madobe was forced to resign on May after going into a bitter dispute with Sharmarke and lawmakers.

His former deputy Prof. Omar Dalha also found his way into the new cabinet as Minister for Rehabilitation and Social Affairs.

Others are Yusuf Hassan Ibrahin Dheeg, a veteran diplomat named as Foreign Minister and Hussein Halane, a long-time worker for United Nations Children's Fund who was appointed new Finance Minister and

Mustaf Sheikh Ali Dhuhulow takes the Planning and International Cooperation portfolio from Abdirahman Abdi Shakur.

Those dropped include Information minister Dahir Gelle who is replaced by Abdirahman Omar Osman (Yarisow), who was holding Treasury ministry. His position was taken by Abdullahi Mohamed Ali (Sanbalolshe)

The Ahlu Sunna Waljamaca militia, fighting on the government’s side, has been rewarded with some cabinet slots as agreed in the power-sharing agreement inked with Transtional Federal Government on 15 March in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ahmed Abdi Salan, who according to the agreeement represents the sufi sect was appointed as national security minister

However, the group’s grand chairman Sheikh Muhammad Sheikh Hassan has announced that the agreement had collapsed due to infringement by 'foreign elements' who don't represent the group.

Reports from Villa Somalia said the president has ratified the new cabinet.

Somalia's transitional government has been rocked by internal wrangles at the face of powerful insurgency that wants to unseat it.
