T
op Somali government officials are meeting in a hotel in the restive Mogadishu to come up plans on how to oust the Somali Parliament speaker Sheikh Aden Madobe, Garowe Online has learnt.
A close associate of Somali president Sharif Sheikh Ahmed told GO that the officials, including lawmakers are getting back ups from the president and his close ally the minister of finance and deputy Prime minister Sharif Hassan.
Reports say the deteriorating relation between these two officials and the parliament speaker has forced the president and his backers to plan the ouster of the Parliament speaker.
However, MPs who support the parliament speaker believe that the president and the Finance minister are using their powers to sabotage the speaker by sending lawmakers without salary for the last 9 months.
Garowe Online has also learnt that the president and his associates are taking these drastic measures to curb the influence of the speaker in the voting of the extension of President’s term.
On Tuesday, the Speaker and his deputy refused to reopen, the parliament meetings because of non-payments of the lawmakers salary.
Some of the Somali MPs held a press conference in Mogadishu to announce there readiness in electing new speaker for the Somali transitional parliament.
The political dispute between top TFG officials come at a time when the fragile UN-backed government is facing daunting threat from the powerful insurgents who are determined to run the war-torn nation.
On January 4, Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke announced plans of his government to rout out insurgents from the capital by the end of the month.
In fighting and wrangles are common in Somali politics with most ending up in resignation of top officials.
