Somalia: 10 killed as Shabaab, Sufi group clash again

DHUSAMAREB, Somalia Jan 29 (Garowe Online) - At least 10 people were killed Thursday in renewed clashes in central Somalia, Radio Garowe reports.

The fighting erupted in Dhusamareb, the provincial capital of Galgadud region, with locals saying the fighting continued for three hours.

Wounded persons were transported to Istarlin Hospital, in the town of Guri El, since the Dhusamareb hospital is not operational, sources said.

Abdullahi Abdirahamn "Abu Qadi," self-styled spokesman of Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jamee'a, a Sufi group, claimed victory over Islamist fighters loyal to Al Shabaab.

"We captured 50 Al Shabaab members, some of them surrendered," Abu Qadi claimed, adding that all the captives would be freed.

No comments emerged from the Al Shabaab side regarding the Dhusamareb clashes, but insiders confirmed the battle.

Al Shabaab spokesman Muktar Robow "Abu Mansur" had previously accused Ethiopia of re-arming clan militias, who now fight under the Ahlu Sunnah name.
