Somalia: 7 people killed as govt troops clash with Hizbul Islam insurgents


At least seven people have been killed and 10 others injured in clashes between Somali government troops and Hizbul Islam militias in Somali capital Mogadishu on Wednesday, Radio Garowe reports.

 The clashes erupted in Hodan district. Three of Hizbul Islam fighters and two Somali government soldiers were among the dead.

 Somali government officer show the media a body of Hizbul Islam fighter who was killed in the clashes.

 “A number of soldiers from our side were also injured in the conflict,” added the officer.

 Meanwhile, a roadside bomb targeted on Somali government troops, who were carrying operation in Mogadishu’s Madina on Wednesday, injured a civilian.

 And on Tuesday, Unknown men targeted Somali government troops in Hamar-weyne district of Mogadishu with hand grenade bombs. Two people have been killed and two others injured in the incident.

Somalia’s weak western-backed transitional government is battling a powerful insurgency that threatens to unseat it.
