BELEDWEYNE, Somalia Jul 17 2012 (Garowe Online) -
A string of early morning explosions rocked the central city of
Beledweyne targeting Ethiopian and Somali troops, Radio Garowe.
According to local sources, the attacks which officials
speculate were improvised explosive devices (IEDs) targeted allied forces as
they were preparing to conduct the morning operations in Beledweyne, the
capital of Hiraan region.
It is unclear how many casualties were killed in the
successive blasts that residents of Beledweyne rouse to. Both Transitional
Federal Government (TFG) officials and Ethiopian military officials have not
yet released statements on casualties in Tuesday morning's blast.
However local sources on the ground in Beledweyne say
that the troops fired indiscriminately after the attacks and that there is a
possibility of civilian casualties.
There have been no confirmations on if the attacks came
from Al Shabaab.
