Somalia: Car accidents increase after rains in Puntland

BOSSASO, Somalia Nov 1 2012 (Garowe Online) - Car accidents have spiked in the northern regions of Puntland lately after heavy rains across Somalia, Garowe Online reports.

Wa’eeya district representative Abdisalan Bashir Abdisalaan who spoke to Radio Garowe said that the after the seasonal rains that accidents have increased causing 2 casualties and several injuries.

There were over 5 car crashes in the past week. On Wednesday, a car accident in the village Qayadsame left 6 injured and damages to businesses.

Some of the injured are in critical condition and being treated in Bossaso.

According to Mr. Abdisalan the accidents are partly due to the rains but mainly because of the bad road conditions.

Also the Mr. Abdisalan the vehicles that are usually involved in accidents are transport vehicles carrying goods to and from Bossaso and also carrying passengers.

The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works are currently building a strategy to improve road conditions and reduce accidents along the main highway that runs through Puntland.
