Somalia: Clashes in Galkayo injure 8


GALKAYO, Somalia Feb 9 2012 (Garowe Online) - Clashes between two tribes in Galkayo,  that lasted for many hours resulted in 11 injuries and one death, Radio Garowe reports.

The fighting which began around 10 am on Wednesday in the area of Horumar near the IDP camp of Buul-Ba'ley lasted till the afternoon. The feud which had started over land issues escalated into a street gunfight.

The Director of Galkayo's General Hospital Ahmed Diriye Sugule told reporters that 11 people are injured including a woman, with two people in critical condition. He added that one male teenager had died from injuries that he sustained when the gunfight sparked in Horumar.

Although the confirmed deaths is 1, many injured were rushed to the South Galkayo hospital which reported more than 15 injured but did not state the deaths in Wednesday's clashes.

A community leader in the district of Israa Abdirahman Mohamed Abdulle was killed on Monday by gunmen who opened fire on him shortly after Isha prayers.
