Somalia: Community leaders meet with Puntland security officials to discuss security 6 Sep 6, 2012 - 1:05:57 AM
BOSSASO, Somalia Sep 6 2012 (Garowe Online) – Community leaders
met with Puntland government officials in the commercial capital Bossaso to
discuss methods to improve security, Garowe Online reports.
Traditional elders, community leaders, women groups and
different members of the community met with Puntland security officials in the
capital of Bari region, Bossaso on Monday.
The meeting was coordinated by the Puntland Ministry of
Security with the assistance of WAWA.
According to Director of Peace Enhancement at the Ministry
of Security Ahmed Yasin who spoke to Radio Garowe the meeting was successful in
reaching a five point understanding with community members.
Among the results were students who have completed higher
education to be recruited into the police.
Another issue reached was to continue cooperation with
police in the region and regular meetings to improve coordination with
residents.
The Puntland government has dedicated huge effort in improving
security across Puntland.
The city of Galkayo has seen a decrease in crime after Puntland
police and other forces were reinforced in the region.
Saeed Abdi Farah Mayor of Galkayo who spoke to Radio Garowe
said that the city’s crime problem had decreased sufficiently, which would
bring more economic and developmental growth to the capital of Mudug region.
The city is currently busy with infrastructure projects in
an effort to improve roads in the city.
