Somalia: Dead bodies continue to turn up in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia Mar 17 2013 (Garowe Online) – One man was killed and another man’s body turned up near a main market in Mogadishu on Friday night, Garowe Online reports.

A man’s body was found near Suqa Holahaa after evening prayers in Mogadishu. Residents did not know how the body turned up in the busy area.

Also near the market, another man was shot and killed by police forces at checkpoint after he failed to heed to an order to stop walking. The young man was carrying a black bag and authorities said that the police officers on duty were very suspicious of him.

Police authorities have been targeted by Al Shabaab, last week 2 armed forces were killed in Mogadishu.

The Somali Federal Government (SFG) appointed a ministerial committee to investigate the bodies. According to reports, some of the men were former Al Shabaab suspects and were detained by Somali authorities previously.

The bodies of the young men have caused uproar in Mogadishu as residents have called for answers.

On Saturday, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stated that the offensive against Al Shabaab has been successful and that the battle was a victory for the government.

“Al Shabaab’s strength has been broken they have resulted to planned operations and assassinations, which is proof that they could not sustain the war,” said President Hassan.
