Somalia: Delegates arrive for Garowe conference


GAROWE, Somalia Feb 15 2012 (Garowe Online) – Delegates have been arriving at Garowe’s International airport as the second phase of the Garowe principles is slated to start on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.

As the second phase is set to begin on Wednesday, the city has been preparing for the delegates arrival and the anxious atmosphere could be felt as President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole and his delegates including Vice President Gen. Abdisamad Ali Shire, several ministers, MPs and a huge crowd awaited the arrival of Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Gaas and his delegation.

The Prime Minister and his delegation waved at the audience and greeted President Farole and his officials. The delegation than was whisked away to the Presidential palace where Prime Minister Gaas gave a brief comment on his trip and the conference.

Issues like the harmonizing of the Puntland constitution and the federal constitution will be discussed and finalized, which could help legitimize the Somali government. Prime Minister Gaas told reporters that the purpose of this conference and ones before it is to end the transitional government in Somalia.

The first conference which was held the 24th of December 2011, included leaders from the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) including President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Gaas, Speaker of Parliament Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan, and Puntland state President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole.

Other delegates that arrived on Tuesday for the three day conference included, Galmudug state President Mohamed Ahmed Aalim and his delegation. Many more delegates will be arriving at Garowe, as 180 delegates will participate in this conference.
