Somalia: Deputy police commissioner laid to rest in Garowe

GAROWE, Somalia Jul 3 2012 (Garowe Online) – Deputy Police Commissioner was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon after he was shot and killed in Garowe, Radio Garowe reports.

Puntland Vice President Gen. Abdisamad Ali Shire, Ministers, MPs and military officials gathered to bury Col. Abdullahi Salah (Nadalo) who was laid to rest in a military funeral in Garowe.

Following the funeral, Vice President Gen. Shire sent his condolences to the family of Col. Nadalo.

“Verily we belong to God, and to God we return; On behalf of the Puntland government I send my regards to Col. Nadalo’s family and I pray that there pain is eased in these difficult times,” Vice President Shire said.

Col. Nadalo was killed while driving his car in Garowe’s Westside by two gunmen who shot the colonel four times. The colonel was traveling without security which is common among Puntland officials in Garowe.

Vice President called the act “callous” and said that the Puntland security forces are conducting a large investigation. Although the police would not comment on leads Gen. Shire expressed confidence that security forces would apprehend the killers.

Speaking to one Garowe resident who lived in close proximity to the murder scene, said she was shocked at the killing in her neighborhood.

“At first I was stunned to hear gunshots in Garowe and I was even more surprised when we heard the news about Col. Nadalo,” said Fadumo Hersi who lived in the adjacent street of the murder.

Col. Nadalo spent most of his life as military official, completed his military training in Russia and was a trainer in the Military Academy in Somalia during Siad Barre’s regime.
