MOGADISHU, Somalia Aug 9 2012 (Garowe Online) – Former Prime
Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo’s supporters were fired upon allegedly by
Transitional Federal Government troops in Mogadishu on Thursday, Garowe Online
reports.
Farmajo who is a candidate for the Somali presidential
elections arrived in Mogadishu Thursday afternoon and was welcomed by his
supporters.
According to local sources in Mogadishu, Farmajo’s supporters
including some TFG soldiers who came to welcome the former Prime Minister were
randomly fired upon by men dressed in TFG forces’ uniform.
At least two people were killed and three others injured
including one TFG soldier and one civilian.
According to one witness at the scene the men escaped from
the scene only after the supporters had fled the area.
TFG Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas announced on
Thursday morning that security in the capital would be increased as elections
for parliament and president draw closer.
Officials in the TFG have yet to comment on the shootings
that led to two deaths on Thursday.
