Somalia: Galkayo gets new mayor

GALKAYO, Somalia Feb 5 2012 (Garowe Online) –Col. Ahmed Ali Salaad was named new Galkayo Mayor by Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.

Following a Presidential decree former Mudug Governor Col. Salaad was named Galkayo Mayor replacing Col. Saeed Abdi Farah.

GO received information that former Mayor Col. Farah could possibly take on a leading role in the Puntland Darwish defense forces.

The new mayor has officially taken on the role and will be interviewed by GO in the coming days.

The city of Galkayo is the capital of the central region of Mudug. Former Mayor Col. Farah contributed quite a lot in improving security in the central city.

Col. Farah and Mudug Governor Mohamed Yusuf Jama Tigey were very vocal in the numerous advocacy programs that were held over the past year in Galkayo.
