Somalia: Gunmen kill Al-Shabaab commander in Kismayo

An Al-Shabaab sebior commander was reportedly killed in the port city of Kismayo in Somalia’s southern lower Jubba region, officials said on Saturday.

The commander named Sheikh Daud Ali Hassan was shot dead on Friday night by two assailants armed with pistol, according to Al-Shabaab’s Jubba administration chairman Sheikh Ibrahim Ali Adan.

“Sheikh Daud died after receiving several shots on the head and the two gunmen escaped after the incident,” he said.

“We are after the murderers and the investigations are still on-going,” he added.

An eyewitness, who requested to remain confidential, said the murder was executed in a well-planned manner as gunmen freely escape the area after the incident.

No group has claimed responsibility for the murder; however, several people have been arrested by Al-Shabaab fighters in connection with the incident.

The group has been in military loggerheads with rival group, Hizbul Islam over the control of southern Somali regions.

Unconfirmed reports have implicated some Hizbul Islam officials in the murder, which is one of its kinds that rock the grou p.
