GAROWE, Somalia Nov 11 (Garowe Online) -
Inmates at a jail in Somalia's northern region of Puntland staged a daring escape Tuesday and wounded four soldiers in the process, a government official said.
An unconfirmed number of inmates including murder suspects broke out of the gates at the central jail in Garowe, capital of Puntland.
Ministry of Security official Ali Hayaan told Radio Garowe that the inmates were "aided" by some of the prison guards.
Four prison guards were wounded after an inmate "on trail for murder" got access to a pistol and freed all the other prisoners, the official added.
It is not the first time inmates escaped from the Garowe jail. The Puntland administration has been criticized for not paying the security forces, a factor locals say contributes to growing insecurity.
