Somalia: Judge killed in Las’anod

LAS’ANOD, Somalia Jun 24 2012 (Garowe Online) – The regional judge of Sool was killed in the region’s capital on Saturday, Radio Garowe reports.

According to local sources, Ahmed Aw Mahamud was shot in Las’anod around 9 Saturday night by two men armed with pistols.

According to witnesses, when authorities reached the scene Judge Ahmed had passed away and authorities began searching for suspects.

Authorities have one suspect in custody who they allege may have crucial information to the case.

“We are conducting investigations to find out who was involved in this attack,” said Governor of Las’anod Mahamud Ali Geele.

Political analysts who spoke to GO said that the killing of the region’s judge could spark more violence in the hotly contested region of Sool.
