Somalia: MPs get round two of fistfights underway

MOGADISHU, Somalia Dec 21, 2011 (Garowe Online) - A fight broke out in Parliament in the capital Mogadishu, when MPs opposing Speaker of Parliament Sharif Hassan Sharif Adan and supporters of him clashed, Radio Garowe reports.
MPs who opposed Sharif Hassan met in Parliament in Mogadishu despite AMISOM peacekeepers efforts to stop them from meeting due to the Speakers absence.
The clash between the MPs happened when a controversial no-confidence vote to select a electora commission was conducted which supporters of Sharif Hassan strongly disagreed with.
According to witnesses the MPs were not just trading punches, some used chairs microphones and anything they can use as a weapon leaving a trail of blood in Parliament.
MPs continued their vote after injured MPs were escorted out of Parliament.
This is the second time in this month that MPs have clashed over the removal of the Speaker.
A vote was taken earlier this month to oust Sharif Hassan as speaker. Although the vote was considered as one that is not conducive to the Roadmap, opposers to Sharif Hassan have continued their fight against him.
President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) Speaker Sharif Hassan and Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Gass are currently in Garowe for the Somalia Constitutional conference which opened yesterday.
