Somalia: 'No taxes on humanitarian services' says Puntland finance minister

GAROWE, Somalia Jan. 4, 2013 (Garowe Online) - The finance minister in Somalia's Puntland government has announced the 'no taxes' have been imposed on humanitarian services in Puntland, Garowe Online reports.

Mr. Farah Ali Jama, Puntland's finance minister, has told Garowe Online news agency that "media reports on taxes on humanitarian services in Puntland is untrue news propaganda."

"There are no taxes on humanitarian services in Puntland and relations between Puntland government and aid agencies remains positive and unchanged," said Finance Minister Jama.

Earlier this week, Diaspora-based website "Horseed Media" reported the news that Puntland government "obstructs humanitarian services" in Puntland.

But Minister Jama said: "Puntland government is ready to answer any questions with facts regarding humanitarian services in Puntland."

Independent Somali media analysts say "Horseed Media" is operated by webmasters in Europe and "functions as a tabloid" renowned for publishing exaggerated reports about developments in Puntland.
