Somalia: President Hassan meets with AU Commission Ambassador

MOGADISHU, Somalia Dec 19 2012 (Garowe Online) – Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who returned from Djibouti met with new African Union Commission Ambassador Mahamat Saleh Annadif on Tuesday, Garowe Online reports.

President Hassan and Somaliland President Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo attended an event in Djibouti celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Somali written language. Djibouti President Ismail Omar Gelle and government officials welcomed the two presidents.   

Reportedly the two presidents had their first meeting at the hotel the two delegations were staying at in Djibouti.

The event was held in Djibouti and its opening was attended by all the presidents, the event is supposed to last until the 22nd of December.  

After attending the opening of the ceremony hosted by PEN - an international literary and humanitarian association - President Hassan returned to Mogadishu where he met with new AU Ambassador to Somalia Annadif who replaced Boubacar Diarra.

Ambassador Annadif’s second visit to Mogadishu on Tuesday was to discuss continued support to the Somali Federal Government.

The ambassador also told press that he would be in Mogadishu on a more permanent basis. Annadif a Chadian diplomat was a former minister of foreign affairs and was chief of staff for President Idris Déby and replaced Diarra last month.

President Hassan also met with UN Special Representative to Somalia, Ambassador Augustine Mahiga at Villa Somalia in Mogadishu on Wednesday.

President Hassan stated that the international community pledged to continue support to Somalia.

“We need support from the international community and I believe it should continue supporting Somalia,” read a press release.

President Hassan requested that international organizations work closely with the federal government ministries.

Since his election as President on September 10 2012 the new Federal Government President  has reached his first 100 days in office.
