Somalia: Puntland Education Minister says 'students still waiting for scholarships'

GAROWE, Somalia Feb 12 2012 (Garowe Online) – Puntland Education Minister says that the aid for education from the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia is not properly distributed, Radio Garowe reports.
Education Minister Dr. Abdi Farah said in press release that scholarships from the Turkey government for 400 students from Somalia, have not properly reached the students in Puntland.

The Minister added that some of the students who entered the test for the scholarship have not yet been contacted and some of the students that received the scholarships are still waiting in Mogadishu for their flight to Turkey.
Minister Farah stated that the TFG’s Ministry of Education was responsible for this setback and asked that the TFG investigate this matter.
Minister Farah thanked the Turkish government for helping educate Somalia’s youth and encouraged them to continue there support.
Tests were taken late last year across Somalia the 400 highest scoring students in the tests would receive full scholarships in Turkey.
