Somalia: Puntland President announces political association

GAROWE, Somalia Nov 14 2012 (Garowe Online) – Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole announced the incumbent government’s new political association in Garowe, capital of Puntland on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.

Horseed political association was announced by Puntland state of Somalia’s President Farole at parliament building in Garowe. President Farole was accompanied by Vice President Abdisamad Ali Shire and Ministers of Cabinet.

The political association is the first to register for an application in Puntland from the Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC) and contains over 200 members. Horseed represents the incumbent government which is led by President Farole since January 2009.

President Farole gave a speech to parliament after announcing the first political party in Puntland discussing Puntland’s transition into a democratic system.

“Puntland’s shift into a democratic system is a major step in the right direction and I would recommend that politicians organize and form political associations as well,” said President Farole.

The President announced that membership of Horseed political association will be open to everyone after the association becomes an official political party.

Dahir Khalif Minister of Transportation and Public Affairs and Chairman of the Political Committee spoke at parliament on Wednesday regarding the announcement of a political association.

TPEC will evaluate Horseed political association in the next coming days to see if the party fits the requirements to be registered.
