Somalia: Puntland and Galmudug hold security cooperation meeting

GALKAYO, Somalia Aug 27 2012 (Garowe Online) – Puntland and Galmudug held a security cooperation meeting at a Galmudug police station on Monday which resulted in the returning of a stolen car, Garowe Online reports.

Puntland Governor of Mudug Region Mohamed Yusuf Jama Tigey and Galmudug Deputy Governor Aweys Ali Saeed met in south Galkayo police station on Sunday to discuss how to strengthen security in the region.

The two officials after meeting with community leaders and police officials held a press conference at the police station.

“Puntland and Galmudug met to discuss the future and move from the past, we are determined to work together to establish security in the region,” said Governor Tigey.

The precursor to the meeting was a car stolen from North Galkayo which was recovered by Galmudug police who were investigating the matter after Puntland police reported it stolen.

Deputy Governor Aweys thanked Galmudug police for the efforts and further cooperation between the two states.

“I want to thank the Puntland representatives who visited us and I also want to congratulate the Galmudug police for their tremendous work. I believe that if we work together we can drastically improve security in the region,” said Governor Aweys.

The two regions have vowed to improve security in the region after a spate of assassinations and car-jackings that gripped the city last month.

Puntland has reinforced their forces in Galkayo which has helped bring down crime in the region.
