Somalia: Puntland delegation visits coastal communities in Bari

BARGAL, Somalia Jun 14 2012 (Garowe Online) - The Governor of Bari Region accompanied by a delegation, visited the coastal areas of Bari, after Puntland's Maritime forces carried out operations in the region, Radio Garowe reports.

Governor Abdisamad Mohamed Galan alongside Ministers, MPs and Bari region representatives for almost a week have been touring towns and cities across Bari region.

The delegation visited Bargal, Qandala, and the village of Bali Dhidin and plans to visit more districts in the region.

The Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) carried out operations in some parts of Bari and Karkaar regions in an effort to rid the area of pirates. PMPF were successful in driving away pirates from their hubs along the coast.

The delegation met with municipal authorities, community leaders and residents to discuss ways of improving security and maintaining a pirate free region. The locals expressed the lack of administrations in some districts which are not easily accessible.

Governor Galan while on his stay, strengthened weak local administrations and established police forces in villages like Bali Dhidin. The governor also stated that he would set up more administrative departments across Bari, to strengthen ties and communication with the coastal communities in the region.

The delegation is set to continue their tour of the region visiting more districts in the region.
