Security forces in Galkayo, the provincial capital of Mudug region in central Somalia have killed an assalaint who wounded three clerics.

The gunman armed with two pistol attacked the clerics who were preaching in the town Friday night, wounding three of them.

Colonel Muse Ahmed Abdirahman, Punland police commander said the forces shot dead the man after he tried to escape.

“The security forces shot dead the attacker after he tried to escape the scene,” he said.

Preliminary Police investigation shows that the man is from the south central Somalia.

A day before the attack, the clerics from Somalia’s Ahlul-Sunnah Wal-Jamaa sufi group, strongly denounced the recent suicide attack at Mogadishu, which killed more than 24 people including three Somali ministers, doctors, student and innocent civilians, said the group’s spokesman Sheikh Abdullahi Sheikh Abdirahman.

Somali militants fighting the fragile UN-backed in central and southern Somalia have infiltrated the peaceful areas that are under the control of semi-autonomous state.

Meanwhile, Puntland president Abdirahman Mohammed Farole has named a
security committee to coordinate and assess the state’s security conditions with concerns from illegal immigrants, crime gangs and the large internally displaced people who fled from the clashes in central and south Somalia.

The vice president heads the committee, which comprise of Defence, Interior Security, Finance Ministers, Attorney General, Chief of Staff, Police Commissioner and the Head of Intelligence.
