Somalia: Puntland forces thwart bomb detonation in Bosaso port

The Security forces in Somalia’s Semi-autonomous state of Puntland have foiled attempts by assailants to blow up the main port of Bossasso town, the capital of Bari Region, security minister says.

Abdullahi Said Samatar, Puntland’s security minister told reporters that police have arrested several people in connection with the incident, adding that the suspects are currently held in central prison of the region.

Samatar said the security forces would remain vigilant to counter any attempt by anti-peace elements to disrupt the serenity in the region.

The city recently experienced rampant insecurity, which has threatened its standing as one of the region’s trade hub.

On mid December, A roadside bomb targeted on vehicles carrying Puntland security forces has killed at least three soldiers.

Puntland, which declared itself as an autonomous part of Somalia in 1998, has enjoyed relative peace compared to the larger chaotic regions of Horn of African nation.
