GAROWE, Somalia Sep 15 2012 (Garowe Online) – The Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole issued a decree on Saturday reshuffling the cabinet of ministers, Garowe Online reports.
The large scale reshuffle was announced by Ahmed Aydid Director of the presidential palace Saturday afternoon, which let go long time Minister of Women Affairs, Asho Gelle Diriye and 6 other ministers.
Asho Gelle who served under former President Gen. Adde Muse and had been a minister of Women Affairs for seven years was replaced by Halimo Hassan Haji.
The Minister of Aviation Ali Ahmed Gamute was changed to Minister of Commerce and was replaced by Minister Hassan Yasin Mohamed.
The Minister of Information Ahmed Ali Askar was also let go and replaced with Mohamud Aydid Ibrahim.
Talk of a major reshuffle had been circling for quite awhile however the reshuffle hadn’t been as immense as foretold.
Many new Deputy Ministers and State Ministers were announced for ministries such as Planning and International Cooperation, Environment, Internal Affairs and Education.
Former Minister Asho Gelle announced at a press conference in Nairobi moments before the Presidential decree was released that she had resigned 3 days prior.
The major reshuffle comes at a crucial time as the Puntland government announced on Saturday that the political party elections would take place in every district in Puntland.
