Puntland security forces injured in grenade attack

Eight security officers were injured on Wednesday in a grenade attack in Puntland 's commercial city of Bossaso, Radio Garowe reports.

Unknown assailants hurled a grenade at a security forces' vehicle while passing road that links Bossaso to other Puntland regions, injuring seven policemen, one of them critically, who were admitted at Bossaso’s main hospital.

However, reports that reached Garowe Online suggested that the critically injured officer has succumbed to his injuries.

An officer, who requested not to be named told GO that several people have been arrested after the explosion and police are questioning them about the incident.

The security forces carry out operation meant to curb the insecurity in the port city which has witnessed several assassination plots and blasts, believed to have been masterminded by people with links to militants fighting in southern Somalia.

Puntland state declared itself as an autonomous part of Somalia in 1998 and has enjoyed relative peace compared to larger chaotic regions of Horn of African nation.
