Somalia: Radio Garowe launches new FM station in Bossaso

BOSSASO, Somalia May 24, 2013 (Garowe Online) - Radio Garowe, an independent FM radio based in Somalia’s northern Puntland state and the sister organization of Garowe Online, has launched a new FM station in Puntland’s port city of Bossaso, Garowe Online reports.

Mr. Ahmed Awil Jama, Radio Garowe director, was interviewed on Radio Garowe on Friday about the new FM station in Bossaso.

“Radio Garowe has opened a new FM station here in Bossaso and Radio Garowe will compete with other radio stations already in Bossaso to attract most listeners,” said Mr. Awil.

He described that Radio Garowe was officially launched in Garowe, capital of Puntland, in 2004 followed by the Garowe Online website in 2005. In March 2012, Radio Garowe launched a new FM station in Eyl coastal district of Nugal region, east of Garowe.

Mr. Awil said that Radio Garowe news organization has played an important part in promoting peace, stability and good governance in Puntland through objective news, analysis and programs.

Radio Garowe's planned expansion includes reaching more audiences in Puntland state, Mr. Awil stated.
