Somalia: Second Puntland political association announced

NAIROBI, Kenya Nov 23 2012 (Garowe Online) - A Puntland political association has been announced in Nairobi on Friday marking the second political association to be announced since the registration began in September, Garowe Online reports.

A big inauguration event to announce the Puntland Democratic Party (PDP) was held in Nairobi on Friday which was attended by Puntland Diaspora, traditional elders and Puntland community leaders.

Professor Abdirahman Haji Salad who is the party's chairman stated that he would run for Puntland President in the election set to be held next year.

He also thanked the various people who attended the event.

Mr. Salad praised Puntland for its development over the past years and reminded the audience that about Puntland's influence in Somalia.

"Should I remind you that Puntlanders live as far as Kismayo, Garowe, Bossaso and Gedo and the biggest percentage of Somalis live in these areas and it is disappointing that these people are not represented fairly in Somali federal government," said Haji Salad.

The PDP party's chairman and members are scheduled to arrive in Puntland in the coming days.
