Somalia: Security official killed in Mogadishu blast

MOGADISHU, Somalia Mar 11 (Garowe Online) - A security official was among four people killed in a roadside bombing in Somalia's capital Mogadishu Wednesday, Radio Garowe reports.

Ubeyd Mohamed Mohamud was a key security official who led the security team for former Somali Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi. He was killed along with his brother and two bodyguards, with witnesses saying the bodies were torn apart and unidentifiable.

Somali rebel group Al Shabaab claimed responsiblity for the bombing, according to Mogadishu radio stations.

Gen. Yusuf Hussein Dhumal, deputy commander of the Somali national police, confirmed the deadly bombing to reporters.

The late Ubeyd Mohamed was working with Somalia's new national unity government on security matters, the police official said.

Mogadishu has been relatively peaceful since Feb. 26 but Wednesday's deadly bombing raised concerns that Islamist rebels will continue the insurgency.
