MOGADISHU, Somalia Sep 8 2012 (Garowe Online) – A spate of insecurity has hit the relatively stable city of Mogadishu recently, as the presidential elections are just hours of away, Garowe Online reports.
African Union forces deployed in Somalia, AMISOM and Somali police arrested over 326 people on Thursday after over 7 people were killed during the past week.
Colonel Khalif Ahmed Ereg Chief of Somali’s Security Service who spoke to media, said that the recent operations arrested over 44 who are alleged Al Shabaab agents on Thursday.
“The operations were successful and we will continue our operations until the security in Mogadishu is safe,” said Col. Ereg.
The past week in Mogadishu has seen bombings, assassinations and Somali government soldiers killing each other.
The recent spate of killings has forced Somali and AMISOM forces to tighten security in the city as the presidential elections our two days away.
