Somalia: Suicide bomber targets speaker’s house

MOGADISHU, Somalia Mar 14 2012 (Garowe Online) – An Al Shabaab agent strapped himself with C4 and detonated himself just outside the presidential palace where speaker of parliament Sharif Hassan Sharif Adan, Radio Garowe reports.

According to local sources the bomber was dressed in TFG military uniform and waited outside the presidential palace. Al least 4 people were killed and 10 others injured, all of whom were civilians.

“The suicide bomber detonated himself outside Sharif Hassan’s house,” said Abdirashid Mohamed Ali a lieutenant in the TFG’s anti terror department.

According to an official in the homicide department the bomber was wearing a ‘bomb belt’, a belt with pockets containing explosives and shrapnel.

Al Shabaab admitted responsibility to the attack said that the attack was a planned attack from the terrorist organization who claimed that they killed 15 TFG soldiers in the blast.

Local sources in Mogadishu say that the bomber waited outside Sharif Hassan’s residence hoping to gain access into the headquarters but after failing to enter, detonated the bomb outside the building instantly killing 4 people.

The attack comes after Al Shabaab spokesman Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage who released a statement vowing that the Al Qaeda affiliate Al Shabaab will not to stop fighting Kenyan and Ethiopian troops.
