Security forces in Somalia’s self-declared republic of Somaliland have thwarts attempts by unknown people to place explosives and bombs inside a mosque in the capital Hargeisa.
Mohamed Saqadi Dubbad, a Somaliland security forces commander said a woman has alerted the authorities about the explosives, including six rockets and two mortar bombs, which was placed inside Imam Sheikh Aden Sira's mosque in the capital Hargeisa.
The act raised suspension over a possible terror attack against Famous Imam Aden Sira, who has publicly denounced suicide bombing in Islam.
His remarks, mostly targeted on Somali insurgents waging war in central and southern Somalia, has been rewarded with threats from Al-Shabaab.
Somaliland, which declared itself as a republic in early 1990s and enjoys relative peace, has been a victim of suicide bombing.
In October 2008, suicide blasts struck Ethiopian Consular office, the Presidential Palace and a UN compound in the capital, killing 20 people including president’s secretary and adviser.
