Puntland President kicks off Mudug trip after Ops concluded

GAROWE, Somalia- The President of Somalia’s Puntland Government Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has kicked off a trip to Mudug region after the northeastern State’s troops concluded week-long counter-terror operations, Garowe Online reports.

Accompanied by an entourage of ministers and parliamentarians, Ali has made a stopover in Jariiban on Wednesday where he was received by cheering crowds.

Addressing Jariban residents, Puntland leader vowed that Al Shabaab extremists will be cleansed soonest.

He also saluted PuntlandDefence Force (PDF), Puntland Security Force (PSF) and Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) forthe successful military endeavor accomplished in weeks.

“Fight is just beginning; war is far from over,” he said in his public speech.

On captive Al Shabaab members, Puntland President noted that most Al Shabaab prisoners are children indoctrinated into terrorism, and pledged that his government will implement rehabilitation and reintegration programs for the former Al Shabaab teenagers.

Domestic itinerary has today taken him to Garacad, with Garowe Online crew accompanying him on his much anticipated visit to Garacad frontline.

Situation largely remains calm in bloody clashes scenes near the Indian Ocean town of Garacad.

On Tuesday, Puntland Information Minister, Mohamud Hassan So’adde, told a news conference in the State capital, Garowe that 167 militants were killed in two separate counteroffensives in Dhinowda and Suuj valley.
