The annual government of Puntland performance retreat enters its second day

The annual Government of Puntland Performance Retreat enters its second day today with officials reviewing achievements, setting priorities for 2016 and developing strategies to improve performance and service delivery.

Chaired by President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, more than 60 officials including members of the cabinet, Director Generals, Heads of Departments and Agencies are taking part in the annual event, which is being held in the Ministry of Health headquarters in Garowe.

Opening the retreat yesterday, President Abdiweli stressed that the annual gathering was intended to enhance accountability and provide briefing to the public regarding the activities of different government agencies and to take stock of progress on Government action plan of the past year.

He added, as Government they are aware of the achievements, weaknesses, and challenges. However H.E. stressed that, “We are here to serve the public and as such it is imperative for the public to be aware of the Government plans, activities, and achievements.”

Officials from the Ministry of Planning said 70 per cent of the targets from last year’s Government Action Plan had been implemented, and remained confident that implementation will continue to improve in the coming year.

The three-day event is part of the change agenda pledge by President Abdiweli, to bring transparency and accountability to Government in Puntland. The home-grown initiative seeks to take stock of the Government’s achievements over the previous year, set priorities and strategies for the year ahead.
